Celebrating 24 years of life!

It's my birthday. ^^

Yes, what's so special about this day? Well, nothing much except that i was born on this day 24 years ago.. erm it's past 12am, so it was yesterday, 24 years ago..right.

24. Age is just numbers as people say but apart from being just numbers, it also represents the years i have spent walking on earth, my day to day existence as a person and the experiences that came with it. 24 years have seen my growth since childhood, the maturity process that accompanies it and changes that took place at each milestone in my seemingly insignificant life. Oh what are we talking about now, of course it's significant! It is a God-given LIFE we're talking about; small as an ant i may be among his zillions of creation but still, i AM a breath of life.

Should i remind myself how precious this life is? for all those times i've wasted not making this life useful and true to its birth.. I should know better by now. Every year i ask almost the same question, am i any mature?. However looking back through the years, there were times when i've made decisions, life-changing decisions which took me to the path where i am now. If i had decided on other options my life would probably be taking a different route now. Do i have regrets? So far, no. I'm happy that i could say that without any reservations. Things happen for reasons we may not be able to foresee or explain and i believe God has plans for me. I hope I have enough faith, strength and positivity to uphold that belief.

Anyway, that's me reflecting upon the years that went by. The good, the bad and the ugly. It's not really appropriate to share one's personal reflection here for it's for one's own personal growth as opposed to something which is beneficial or entertaining for the readers ^^ i'm sure most people would have had experienced this point in life where they just look back to see what they have done and how far they had gone. Although i don't always have a specific celebration during my birthdays but Birthdays are always a good reason/occasion for one to celebrate Life in all its beauty and splendour!

I had a good day today. I manage to catch the bus for clinicals this morning and at the same time have proper breakfast, I enjoyed a good pizza meal with two of my friends in the evening after classes, and at home i enjoyed a nice chocolate cake with ice cream with my housemates. With friends and those dear to me wishing me well throughout the day, i feel blessed. Yes, i had a good day ^^ Thanks everyone for making my day.

Feeling sleepy and tired now. Signing off.

of rain and books..

it's been raining every evening lately..

cool air and beats of raindrops falling on the rooftops remind me of the home i grew up in (sandakan) and what i used to love doing on the rainy days.

when i was in school, i used to enjoy reading so much. i read all sorts of books and reading materials from widely different subjects. the district library used to be one of my favourite places and i used to borrow up to 8 to 12 books at a time thanks to my parents' library card (one card is limited to 4 books so i used theirs to borrow more), and finish reading them all in less than 2 weeks.

one of my most comforting memory is how i used to spend rainy days tucked away in a sofa or my own bed, with a book in my hand, a blanket wrapped around me and a mug of hot chocolate on the side table. sometimes i have radio or tv on, just for the music or some extra sounds hehe..aah what a bliss. rainy day, a book and a blanket are a perfect combination ^^

finding myself suddenly reminiscing over memories of my old home and of the simple pleasures i found in books, leads me to wonder - whatever happened to my love for books? yes, i still love buying them and spending time in the bookshops (since i don't get to go to public library nowadays) but when i'm at home i rarely find time to read them. there were a lot of things, besides reading, which i enjoyed doing before but after i left home to further studies (it's been 5 years now i think), those hobbies from the past slowly ceased to be. instead, other things seem to have taken their place e.g. sleeping, blogging (as an alternative to writing i guess?), and.. hmm what else? goes to show how much i'm wasting my time does it? although, i seem to find my day filled with so many activities from morning til night..

well, i decided that it's time to rekindle old love and brush up on the new ones ;p i'm going to make time in this so-called "busy" schedule to read (i think that would have to include books related to my subjects of study - yes, i need to be more diligent in my revisions huhu). i've been meaning to read Peter Colaco's Bangalore, which i had bought 3 months earlier hehe. but before that, i'll have to cut down on proscrastination and unnecessary "rest" ^^ jia you!

p/s happy birthday "wiwi" (^^)

Still loving motivational books

History of present illness?

I feel better today (^^)

Last night I paid a visit to a hospital's Emergency and Casualty Department. It was 9.40pm. The reason? General weakness and dehydration due to vomiting.

In clinical postings, history taking is what we were told as the most important thing to do when seeing a patient. So here's my history as written in my card:

Pt comes with H/o vomitting - 4 episodes - not blood stained, non foul smelling
(they never asked about blood or smell, but they're right anyway)

h/o nausea; h/o 1 episode of loose stools - watery; no h/o fever; h/o burning sensation in epigastric region

(Pt = patient; h/o= history of)

Anyway, below that was written my vital signs - temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate (although i didn't recall having any apparatus attached to measure my blood pressure level heheh). Recorded out of experience maybe? ;p

Following report of systemic examination was written the impression: Acute gastroenteritis. Hmm. Thankfully, my roommate insisted we go to the hospital. I was thinking of going the next morning since it was late but for fear of getting worse (and I couldn't sleep well anyway), I went with her half-joking that I'd probably be given IV fluid, which ends up to be true (since I was dehydrated) huehue. I had never been in so bad a condition as to require anti emetic injections and ringer lactate IV fluids. However, it was for immediate relief and I was sent home at 12 midnight with a bag of 6 different tablets plus 5 packets of ORS.

I will watch more carefully what I eat after this but who knows when this may happen right? It's not as if I'm not careful of what I eat before. In fact, I ate the same food my housemate was eating and I'm the only person who got sick from it ;p talk about luck. Anyway, thanks to my roomie who accompanied me to the hospital (the strange delirious auto driver whom drove us to the hospital dropped us 500m away and we had to walk!!), and also to nicky whom took the time to fetch us from the hospital and send us home. Geez, how I shook with hunger that night! At last I could eat! Thanks for the instant fish-flavoured porridge mom, that was really useful at a time like this. Yes, I feel more energetic now ^^V

Happily recovering. Goodnight. God bless everyone!

I'm Not Addicted To Coffee

Well, contrary to what people may judge from my blog's name and my love for coffee shops, i am not a coffee addict. (^^) and that's just a statement i felt like making.

Yes, i sometimes make random statements and they usually appear spontaneously (i blurt them out in an impulse). That may just appear to be one of my negative trait, (especially in the presence of others who disagree with my statement) but sometimes i can't seem to remember to control them. i guess my "talkative" nature backfires at times. Why the inverted comas? Because i'm not really talkative all the time. Heheh, i can see somebody rolling their eyes, saying "Yeah right!". Yes, go ahead and laugh. It's good that somebody enjoys the benefit of a laugh out of something i said (although i meant for it to be taken seriously?).

Still, as hard as it is for some people to believe, there are times when i wish i could just sit down quietly instead of having to initiate a conversation. i know i don't have to initiate a conversation every time but somehow, being the communicator that i am (yes, i am a Gemini) i sometimes feel the urge to end an awkward silence by starting a conversation. You know when everyone is sitting quietly but you somehow sense a strange uncomfortable feeling hanging in the air? Well, sometimes i can't stand that so i need to break the silence.

However some people may not like that, they would've preferred the silence. In the eyes of these people, i'll be seen turning from a friendly person into an ugly annoying chatterbox heheh. To such people, i'm saying SORRY but there's nothing i can do about it at present. I can't change myself overnight and i can't help it if you can't seem to like me for who i am and laugh things off saying "there you go again" (but then again, they may not be people who know me well, so they can't do that hehe).

Why do i even bother? i shouldn't always try to please other people because the most important person for me to please is myself. It's not once or twice i came home in the past, wishing i'd done or said things that would not offend or irritate other people. But always thinking about what others may feel that way had caused me to believe that i am indeed an irritating and annoying person and just listening to me talking is an agony. My ability of speech that was once viewed as a gift really felt like a double-edged sword then - it pierced my heart. Okay, enough of that agony talk, i can't stand pessimism or negative emotion for long because they may drive me to depression ;p

Anyway, having realized that in the past, i ceased to care, not as much as turning into a cold person but enough to take care of my heart. After all, i don't think they give a damn about what i feel too :) it's up to me to take care of my own. I couldn't say i've been successfully managing up to now though; i still think a lot of others' feelings and thoughts, but i'm moving on, not crumbling because deep down i know who i am..

..and i know i'm Not Addicted To Coffee, no matter what you think ;p (yeah, i just felt i had to end with that statement hehe)

Goodnight! May God bless us all. Amen.
